to preserve our physical health, we need to observe emotional hygiene

to preserve a healthy mind and attitudes     . (Dalia Lama)

Mission Month of October 2017
:  Today is World Mission Sunday everywhere in our church.  Our church is celebrating together, praying together and also sharing what we can with young churches who consist of 40 % of the whole church. The money donated will go to support churches, hospitals, schools and vocations where the church is new and will be distributed on the basis of need. We invite your prayers and generosity and thank you for your extraordinary generosity to the missions over many years

Senior Citizens Christmas Party: The annual senior citizens Christmas party will be held on Sun. 3rd Dec. in Morty’s.  All are welcome for an afternoon of good food, plenty of music and good company.

Camogie News:  Ruan u13 Camogie team played a superb match on Saturday in the B championship Semi-Final against Kilmaley. The effort and work-rate by the Ruan Girls made sure they emerged as the deserving winners on a final score of 5:3 to 0:8.

Well done to all the girls on an excellent performance. Fantastic effort, skills and determination was shown by the girls. Ruan abú

Ruan GAA:

Under 10s Trip to TippOn Sunday Oct 8 our Under 10s took part in a very competitive hurling tournament in Cappawhite GAA Club Co. Tipperary. We were delighted to be asked to attend and represent Clare. The boys played great hurling on the day. Ruan were unlucky not to reach the 'A' final, we were beaten a point in the 'A' semi-final and as a result qualified for the 'B' final where we defeated the host club Cappawhite.

The most important thing though was that each boy present got to play loads of hurling and everyone got game time. The focus for Ruan was on participation. We also had an Under 9 team which did very well and played against Cappawhite (Tipperary), Murroe Boher (Limerick) and Harps (Laois).

In total 27 boys played hurling for Ruan in Tipperary.

Plants something in their soul'      (Thomas Merton)

Road Safety Awareness: Bishop Fintan has urged all road users to take extra care on the road this October Bank Holiday weekend. He says: “Road safety awareness is the parable of the Good Samaritan in action within our communities today.  I am thinking here of all road users: motorists, motorcyclists, cyclists and pedestrians, and we all have a role in helping each other even if we do not know one another personally. I firmly believe that prayer and reflection can change our driving behaviour, calm our aggression, remind us of the spiritual, moral and physical importance of what we are about to do. In this context I recommend the following dedicated prayers for motorist which can be said before driving.”

17th century paidir as Gaeilge

In ainm an Athar le bua,

In ainm an Mhic a d’fhulaing an phian,

In ainm an Spiorad Naoimh le neart,

Muire is a Mac linn inár dtriall. Áiméan!

A contemporary prayer in the English language:

Holy Mother, hear our prayer,

Keep us in your loving care,

Whatever the perils of the way,

Let us not add to them this day.

So to our caution and attention,

We add a prayer for your protection,

To beg God’s blessing on this car,

To travel safely near and far.

Amen.

Mission Sunday:  The theme for Mission Sunday this year is: “Every Christian is a Missionary.” Since this year is also the Jubilee Year of Mercy, we may add: “Every Christian is a Missionary of Mercy,” for the service of mercy is central to the Church’s missionary outreach. Pope Francis says: “We need Christians who make God’s mercy and tenderness to every creature visible to people today.”

Thought for the Week
"Blessed is the person who is too busy to worry in the daytime

and too sleepy to worry at night". (Leo Ackman)

Mission Sunday: The people in Killaloe Diocese have been urged to support missionaries working in some of the world’s poorest countries by donating during the Mission Sunday collection. The theme for World Mission Sunday in Ireland this year 2016 is "Every Christian is a Missionary".                        As we thank you for your wonderful generosity to the Missions over the years we invite you to please continue to help our young churches to share the gift of faith though your prayer and whatever financial assistance you can.

Ruan/Dysart Senior Citizens committee would like to thank all those who contributed to their recent church gate collection. The amount raised was €391.20.

The Craft Morning in Toonagh has been such a success that it will now be held on Wednesday as well Thursday mornings from 11am. Anyone interested in learning more about any craft is welcome, someone will help - or find help - to get things started. Patterns, recipes & tips are shared in a warm atmosphere. If a parent has a child & is wondering if they can attend, they'll be made welcome to come and have a chat over a 'cuppa'

EU Anti-Trafficking Day: Every year, since 2007, October 18th has been designated EU Anti-Trafficking Day. One might have hoped on this, the 10th Anti-Trafficking Day, that we would not be facing the reality that, rather than decreasing, human trafficking is actually on the increase. Of particular concern is the trafficking of women and girls for exploitation in the sex trade. This is the fastest growing crime internationally. It may surprise you, but even far-flung towns and villages in Ireland are not exempt from the forced prostitution of vulnerable women and children. Act to Prevent Trafficking (APT), a faith-based organisation, working with more than seventy groups in the Turn off the Red Light campaign, is calling on the Government to enact the 2015 Bill to criminalise demand for sexual services – as has already been done in Northern Ireland. What can you, your parish, your community do? Take action by praying that this huge injustice may be eliminated, by raising awareness of the facts of human trafficking and by calling on your TDs to lobby the Dail to ensure that this Bill becomes law. www.aptireland.org E.m. info@aptireland.org.
