End of an Era.
Michael Moloney, proprietor of The Dalcassian, pulled his last pint on the premises, in recent weeks, signalling an end to fifty five years in business, forty eight years in Ruan and, before that, seven years in training. Michael and his late wife, Teresa, as a young couple with vision and an entrepreneurial spirit set about building up a business that was well known, even beyond the county. They not only had a grocery and light hardware business, but supplied farmers with fertiliser, sand and gravel, animal feeds and solid fuels. They also continued the pub business, previously known as McGann's, and in the 80's people came from far and wide, following groups which played there at the weekends.
Teresa also ran the local Post Office, until her untimely death and the premises was  a hub and a hive of activity in its time and it heralds the end of an era in the village as its doors closed for the last time, as the family has moved on in their own chosen careers and Michael decided to retire from the business.
It is hoped that, sometime in the future, someone with the same vision and entrepreneurship and hardworking spirit that spurred Michael and Teresa to see the potential in the business, may take it over and inject a vibrancy back into the life of the area.

Recent Death.
The death has taken place of Michael Hehir of Ennis, brother of Noreen Cummins of Erinagh, Fountain.
