Walk in the Woods.
Despite the inclement summer weather, many people are choosing to get outdoors, suitably dressed, enjoying the natural amenities - taking in walks in their own localities. In this parish we are blessed with two woodland walks, one in Ballygriffey and the more well known, Dromore Woods and walks around Dysert O'Dea.
The visitor centre in Dromore Woods is open every day from 10am to 6pm during July and August, providing information on the flora and fauna in the 400 hectare nature reserve, and people walk the different walks all the time. There is a free guided walk starting off from the centre next Sun. at 3pm. They will follow woodland trails with some of the way unsuitable for buggies or wheelchairs, being rough terrain, and suitable footwear is advised.

The deaths have taken place of Mary Keary, Dulick, Gort Road, Ennis, sister of Ollie Meere, Dysart and Caroline O'Connell, Drumbannif, Crusheen, mother of Anne Shannon, Bealacana, Ruan.

Off to Sligo.
A number of talented local people came through from the Munster Finals of Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann which was held in Nenagh at the weekend - Eve O'Connor on fiddle (u12) and Irish Harp (u12) and with Eva Carroll in duets (u12);  Lily O'Connor with Rosa Carroll in Duets  (12-15); Uileann Pipes (15-18) Barry Heagney; whistling (u12) Moya Tiernan;  English Singing (o18) Denise Whelan. There was local participation in Inis Og Grupa Ceoil and Inis Og Ceili Band, in the Burren Ceili Band and in Croisin Band, all of which will now compete in the All Ireland which will be held in Sligo in August.

Cul Summer Camp.
Ninety one children between the ages of 7 and 13 enjoyed the Summer Cul Camp which was held in the local G.A.A. Field in Ruan last week. The young hurlers and camogie players from the local schools were under the direction of Barry Gibbons from Ogonelloe who was head coach, and the showers which fell during the week didn't dampen the spirits of anyone involved. All the children were delighted with the experience and the kit they received at the end of the week.
