Ruan Playgroup Fundraiser.
Ruan Playgroup has been fortunate to get a bag packing slot in Dunnes Stores on Fri. 2nd May from 4p.m. and Sat. 3rd May, from 9a.m. to 7p.m.  The organisers would greatly appreciate help from anyone aged 16 yrs to active grandparents, and anyone that could spare an hour might contact the Playgroup on 6827791 after the Easter holidays or Martina (0868555014), where they will be warmly welcomed.
Toonagh Hall.
The organisers of the Draw being held to raise funds for repairs to Toonagh Hall appreciate the reception they are getting as they visit houses in the parish with tickets over these few weeks.  Top prize in this draw is €1,500 cash and there are 5 prizes of holiday breaks, 5 prizes of freezer ready fat lambs, 5 prizes of heating bundles and 5 prizes of meals for two.
It is expected that work will commence shortly on the old school roof, so the support of the community is very much appreciated.
Alzheimers Tea Day.
This year is the 40th Anniversary of the Alzheimers Tea Day, and this parish has, over the years, supported this worthy cause by hosting tea days, however, this year, due to the closure of Toonagh Hall, it will only be held in Ruan Community Centre on Thurs. next. 1st May from 9.30a.m. to 12.30p.m.   All monies raised in Clare are spent in the county for the services offered by the local Alzheimers Association, so the support of the community will be much appreciated.
Junior training has been underway for a number of weeks, with early morning sessions and circuit training taking place on Fri. evenings.  This year the girls on the team have been joined by new talent, including girls from North Clare.
The u14  girls have gotten off to a good start, with wins over Eire Og and Broadford. The panel, managed by John O'Connor and George Power, has been strengthened by the addition of some players from Crusheen this year.
Underage Hurling.
Under 14A Ruan/Corofin will play Doora Barefield in Gurteen on this Fri. and the u14C will play in Parteen at the weekend (see Clare Champion for times and dates).   The u8s had their first matches this year last week in Clarecastle, with twenty young Ruan hurlers taking to the field and doing very well.
Recent Deaths.
The death has occurred in England of Tom O'Brien, formerly of Bealnalicka, Ruan, brother of Kevin and Joe O'Brien and Martina Murphy of Bealnalicka.   The death has also taken place of Peggy Carroll, mother of Bernadette Kelly, Dromina, Dysart.
The girls of Toonagh School basketball team are through to the semi final of the Marion Keane Memorial Basketball Tournament. Last year's champions met Knockanean in the quarter final, having beaten Gaelscoil Mhicil Ciosog, Clarecastle and Tubber/Boston.
