It is hoped to identify all the Cilíns in our parish and to commemorate the unbaptised babies who were buried there. Some are marked on the Ordnance
Survey maps but it is likely that there are others known only to people who live in the townland where they are located. If you have any information

The National Catholic Schools Week takes place from January 28th to February 3rd 2018.On Sunday 4th February Bishop Fintan Monahan,
Bishop of Killaloe, will be the chief celebrant at Mass for the conclusion of Catholic Schools Week 2018.

This Mass will be broadcast by RTÉ on radio from the Cathedral of Saints Peter & Paul, Ennis.


The Annual 10k Burren: Walk in aid of the Clare Branch of the Alzheimer Society will take place on Sunday Feb 11th from O'Donoghues Pub in Fanore. Sponsorship cards are from the Alzheimer Society, Cuan an Chlair, Cahercalla, Tel - 065 6868621

Confirmation ‘Be My Witness Programme’ training night for parent volunteers is on this Sunday night 29th January in Corofin Hall from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm.

 

Be My Witness Programme’ for all Confirmation Children in the Imeall Bóirne parishes will be held in Corofin Hall from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm, on the following nights: Sunday 5th February, Sunday 12th February, Sunday 19th February and Sunday 5th March.

 

NET Ministries *New meeting times* On Wednesday the 1st of February the Junior Amplified Youth (1st-3rd year) will be meeting at 6:00-7:30pm in the Ruan Church hall, and on Friday the 3rd of Feb. the Senior Amplified Youth (TY-6th) will be meeting from 7:30-9:00pm.

 

The KDYC (Killaloe Diocesan Youth Council) are having their annual overnight on Friday 10th February in St. Flannan's College, Ennis. This event is open to all young people aged 16 to 19. Ruan and Dysart Annual Apostolic Work Display Day will be held on Sunday 12th March. If anyone would like to donate a sacred vessel please contact E Roughan, E Hannon or M Marrinan. The price list is on display on the notice boards in both churches

 

Yoga classes continue in Toonagh Hall on Mon. mornings from 11am to 12.15pm (to enable children to be collected from preschool) €10 for morning class. Classes are also held on Tue. Yoga evenings from 7 to 8.30pm €15 walk-in per class. Call 0868507227 for further details.

Basket making classes for beginners will take place in Toonagh Hall in the next few weeks. Anyone wishing to try their hand at this craft may contact Michael @ 0872218126.

A Clothes Collection will be held to raise funds for sports equipment and school supplies on Thurs. 9th Feb. Members of the Parents Association will be in Toonagh Hall will be in the hall on the day from 9-10am, 1.45-3pm and 6.30-7.30pm to receive bags of clean used clothing, bed linen, curtains, belts, bags & shoes.

NET Ministries: The NET Team is back in the area and will be holding a social night for all Secondary School students on Wednesday the 18th of January from 7:30-9:00pm in Ruan Community Centre. Come hang out with friends, play games, and chill with the Team!


Yoga class starting in Toonagh Hall from this Mon., Jan.16th from 11am to 12.15pm (to allow for child pick-up from pre-school) €10 for morning class. Evening yoga classes start Tue. 17th from 7 to 8.30pm, €48 for four week term, prepaid, or €15 walk-in per class. Anyone who has their own mats are advised to bring them and bring a bottle of water too.


Handball A.G.M. The A.G.M. Of Toonagh Handball Club will be held in Toonagh Hall on this Mon. eve. 16th Jan. at 8.30pm. Anyone interested in playing, or taking up the game for the first time, is invited to come and find out more about the game of Handball. Those who play Hurling and Camogie find it can help in enhancing the skills of 'eye to ball', ‘hand/eye coordination' and fitness used in both codes. Currently the Club only caters for adults, but it is hoped to have a juvenile club up and running by the end of 2017.

Camogie News: Underage Ruan Hurling and Ruan Camogie Club holds its registration and medal presentation night on Fri. 27th Jan., at 7.15pm. Medals will be presented to girls u11, u12 and u14 and to the boys u13 who had successes last year. Any player not registered is NOT eligible to train or play with the Club so it is important that parents/guardians realise this. Refreshments will be served.


Ruan GAA:  

Ruan Registration Night 2017. Ruan Minor Club is holding its official registration night in Toonagh Hall on January 27th at 7.00pm. All Boys from Under 6 to Under 18 need to register on this night in order to train or play with the club for 2017.

Our winning Under 13 panel will receive their medals on the night from a special guest. Adult membership for Ruan GAA club will also be taken on this night. Special Family membership rate of €80. Refreshments will be served after to children and adults. 

GAA Draw-Tickets €10, national draw with 14 prizes. In addition to the National Draw, we will also hold a local draw for 5 additional prizes of €100, the draw will take place on Friday 27th January in Toonagh Hall in conjunction with the clubs registration night.

Diocesan Pilgrimage to Fatima and St. Anthony’s Shrine:  The Killaloe Diocese is organising a once off pilgrimage to Fatima for the Centenary Year 2017 and a visit to the shrine of St. Anthony in Lisbon.  The pilgrimage will be direct from Shannon Airport on Easter Monday 17th April, returning Friday 21st April. The Back to Education Initiative, Further Education and Training Centre, Clonroad Campus, Clonroad Business Park, Ennis, Co. Clare are currently recruiting for learners interested in courses in the Childcare area.  This QQI Level 4 Introductory programme prepares learners for working in a crèche or other Childcare settings. Modules on the programme include Child Development and Play, Nutrition and Healthy Options and Computer Applications.

Candlemas Day: Tuesday next 2nd February is Candlemas Day and candles for use in the Church during the coming year will be blessed at 9:30 Mass in Ruan.

 

St. Blaise: Wednesday next is the feast of St Blaise and there will be blessing of Throats after Mass in Ruan at 9:30 and Dysart at 8:00 pm

First Holy Communion:  A meeting of the Parents who are organising the First Holy Communion Liturgy for the children from Toonagh and Ruan National Schools, will be held in Ruan Community Centre on Friday night next 5th February at 8:00 pm

 

Tea/Coffee Morning continues every Tuesday Morning in Ruan Community Centre at 10:00 am. All are welcome.

 

Date for the Diary: Dysart girl, Claire McDonnell, a trainee nurse, and her friend and fellow student, Aisling Sweeney from Connemara, are travelling to the outback in Tanzania in May, to help people in need in hospitals there.
They are holding a Bingo Nite in Purcell's Bar, Ruan on Fri. 26th Feb to fund their venture and there will be more details nearer the time

Ruan Camogie Club in conjunction with Minor Hurling Club are holding their Joint Registration Night on Friday 5th February 2016 in Toonagh Hall at 7.30. All parents and players for the coming year are requested to attend for registration. Any queries please contact Mary Hickey 087 9135529




Ruan GAA: 
Ruan Minor Club Registration Night: Ruan Minor Club is holding its official registration night in Toonagh Hall on this Friday, February 5th at 7.30. All Boys from Under 6 to Under 18 need to register on this night in order to train or play with the club for 2016.
This year the club is again promoting a family membership rate and more details will be available on the night. 

Medal Presentation: The Ruan Under 13 Championship winning panel will receive their medals at a function during the registration night on February 5th in Toonagh Hall at 7.30. Refreshments will be served and please support our young hurlers on the night.

Cúl Camp: The date for the Ruan Cúl Camp 2016 is July 18-22.

Fitness 4 Fun with John Conroy for both men and women has resumed in Ruan Community Centre on Wednesdays from 1:15pm to 2:15pm. Cost €5. John who is the founder of Fitness4Fun is an experienced and qualified fitness coach for older adult fitness. Exercise can reduce the risk of developing some age-related diseases and disabilities. People with arthritis, heart disease or diabetes benefit from regular physical activity and exercise can also help people with blood pressure, balance problems or difficulty walking. All are welcome to come.

Readers and Eucharistic Ministers: We would welcome and encourage more people, both young and older, to have an active part in the celebration of the Eucharist as readers or Eucharist Ministers. Sacristan Retires: Pat Morris has retired as Sacristan of Dysart Church and we would like to thank him for his many years of service to the parish and wish him well in the future.
If anyone is interested in taking on the task of Sacristan please contact Fr. Pat. 

 Mass Card Donations: All Money received for Mass Card Donations is divided between the Foreign Missions and Faith Development in the Parish. Please use the Mass Donation envelope provided and place it in the collection basket. 

Vocation to Diocesan Priesthood: A Vocations Workshop is being organised for the Munster Dioceses inviting any person interested in being a diocesan priest to experience a time of reflection and discernment. The workshop is on February 5th-6th 2016 in Thurles and further details available from Fr. Ignatius McCormack, Killaloe Diocesan Vocations Director at 086 2777139 

Clothes collection for Toonagh School: Now that people are back to routine after the holidays, they may be organising the wardrobes in readiness for Spring. Toonagh School is holding a clothes collection on 11th Feb and would welcome donations of clean, used clothing, bed linen, towels, curtains, belts, bags and shoes. Monies raised will be used for new classroom supplies 

Clare Parkinson’s Support Group: You are invited to join the Clare Parkinson’s Support Group at Carrigoran Health & Wellness Centre, Newmarket-on-Fergus at 10.00 am on the last Friday of each month. The aim of this Support Group is to meet unmet needs for social support and be an additional source of help and information for people with Parkinson’s, their families and carers. Meetings which are informal provide a chance to talk and discuss worries and experiences and may include a presentation by an invited speaker, such as a healthcare professional or complementary therapist.

The Clare Parkinson’s Support Group also arrange various activities that assist people living with Parkinson's such as Yoga, Dance and Tai Chi classes, outings and information meetings. There is a social aspect to each meeting including mid-morning tea/coffee with freshly baked homemade scones! The next Parkinson’s Support Group meeting is on Friday 29th January.
