As we face into the coldest spell of weather for a long time, the Killaloe Diocese Justice and Peace Committee encourages you to keep an eye on elderly neighbours, friends and family members. A quick phone call or visit to ensure that they are warm enough and have enough food would make a world of difference.

Thought for the Week:

"The happiness of life is made up of little things - a smile, a helping hand,

a caring heart, a word of praise, a moment of shared laughter.
We are most alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures"
(Thorton Wilder)

Thought for the week

May God give you;

For every storm, a rainbow, For every tear, a smile,

For every care, a promise, And a blessing in each trial.

For every problem life sends - A faithful friend to share,

For every sigh, a sweet song And an answer for each prayer.

(An Irish Prayer)

Justice and Peace:   Perhaps the following little excerpt from Pope Francis letter for the XLIX World day of peace might inspire some encouragement and nurture some good will, especially in areas of our Diocese affected so badly by flooding.....  In looking ahead to the new year, I wish to encourage everyone not to lose hope in our human ability to conquer evil and to combat resignation and indifference; to demonstrate our capacity to show solidarity and to rise above self-interest, apathy and indifference in the face of critical situations.  Food for thought from Pope Francis....

Thought for the week
Life is a book in volumes three -
The past, the present and the yet-to-be.
The past is written and laid away,
The present we're writing every day,
And the last, and best of volumes three
Is locked from sight -
God keeps the key.

The Justice and Peace Group are anxious to promote care of elderly people who may be living alone during the entire year, but in particular at this time. If you know of any elderly neighbour or person living in your area who may be alone or in need of some assistance during these times, we would urge you to drop in for a chat or a quick visit. The smallest of things can mean the world to someone, so, we would encourage those of us who are able to keep an eye to our elderly neighbours and friends.

Third Age - Senior Help Line: ‘Do you need someone to talk to? Senior Help Line is a confidential listening service for older people provided by trained older volunteers for the price of a local call anywhere in Ireland, LoCall 1850 440 444. Senior Help Line is open every day of the year, from 10 am to 10 pm. Older people call because they feel lonely and want some company in their day. Callers have financial, family and health concerns. A small number are experiencing elder abuse. Some feel depressed and need support to carry on. Senior Help Line‘s trained older volunteers offer a friendly, listening and non-judgmental ear to all callers. So don't be alone with your problem. Lifting the phone lessens the loneliness. We are there. LoCall 1850 440 444’

Ruan Gaa:
Ruan Minor Club held a very successful review meeting and AGM on Tuesday last. There was a good attendance where Claire McDonagh (Secretary) and Donal O'hAiniféin (Chairperson) gave comprehensive reports on the year's activities. While no silverware was won in 2014, players and mentors were complimented for their hard effort throughout the year. Donal and Claire were elected again to their officer positions for 2015 and both were complimented for the excellent work they are doing for our minor club. A good discussion took place on the Ruan underage hurling. The club is seeking and needs more help with all age groups, especially U10, U12, U16 and Minor. If you are willing to help out please make contact with Donal, Claire or any club member.
