The Twelve Days of Christmas.

It is claimed that this Christmas song was written when the Catholic faith was proscribed in England under severe penalties.  It was a kind of catechism to teach young Catholics the tenets of their Faith. The "true love" refers to God Himself; the "me" who receives the gifts is the baptised Christian, and the partridge in a pear-tree is Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

The partridge in a pear tree is Jesus.

Two turtledoves are the Old and New Testaments.

Three French hens stand for faith, hope and love.

Four calling birds are the four Gospels.

Five gold rings recall the Hebrew Torah (Law),

the first five books of the Old Testament.

Six geese a-laying stand for the six days of creation.

Seven swans a-swimming represent the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Eight maids a-milking are the eight Beatitudes.

Nine ladies dancing are the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit.

Ten lords a-leaping are the Ten Commandments.

Eleven pipers piping represent the eleven faithful Apostles.

Twelve drummers drumming symbolize the twelve points of doctrine

in the Apostles Creed.

Ruan Gaa:

Ruan Minor Club would like to wish all our players, coaches, parents and supporters a very happy Christmas and a healthy and prosperous 2015. This year we didn't win any silverware but made good progress where we contested the Under 14 A and Minor A Championship Semi Finals losing both narrowly. Hopefully we will have a good 2015 with many young hurlers giving their best. Christmas greetings to our two schools, Ruan Camogie Club and Ruan Senior Hurling Club and thanks for your support in 2014.

We would also like to thank Anthony O’Halloran Car Sales for his sponsorship of a Set of Jerseys for the U 6s and U 8s. Anthony presented the jerseys to the Minor Club on Monday night last in Toonagh Hall where Santa also met the children, thanks to all.
