Junior Hurling.
The Ruan Junior hurling team completed their Junior "B" Championship with a well deserved win over Ballyea on Sat. last in Gurteen.
This has been a good year, overall, for the Juniors, where they achieved promotion in the league competition.
All Ireland Fleadh Cheoil.
The local entrants who travelled to take part in the All Ireland Fleadh Cheoil which was held in Derry last enjoyed themselves thoroughly.  Most of those who travelled up took some time outside of competing to visit tourist destinations in the county, including Giant's Causeway, and the seaside towns, with which they were very impressed.   Fergal Breen came 2nd in the Flute (15-18).   Lily O'Connor came 1st and Shona O'Halloran came 3rd in the Concertina (u12) competition.
In Miscellaneous (15-18) Conor Arkins came 1st playing saxaphone.  Conor's sister, Eimear, came 1st in English Singing (018), 2nd in Lilting (018) and 3rd in the newly composed dance tune competition.  A number of locals are members of Inis Og Ceili Band which won in u12 and the Inis Og Band which came 1st in 15-18 section.   Burren came 1st in Grupai Ceoil, 15-18).
Irish Dancing.
Michelle Enright from Scoil ui Nuallain (Nolan School of Dancing) will begin Irish Dancing classes in Toonagh Hall on Friday afternoons, from 3.30 to 4.30p.m., starting on Fri. 13th Sept. next.   More information may be had from Michelle at 0872548993.
Graveyard Book.
The book of transcriptions of Ruan old graveyard and the Coille has been reprinted, due to the great interest shown in the work of Frances O'Halloran and Linda Hogan, who compiled it.
Frances (0876575578) or Linda (0868748845) may be contacted by anyone wishing to purchase a copy or get further information on the book.
