Thought for the Week

"Our Lord has written the promise of resurrection, not in books alone,

but in every leaf in Springtime"    (Anon.)

Divine Mercy Sunday 23rd AprilEnnis Cathedral 2.15 p.m.   Devotions, Confessions, Mass and Benediction.  The Feast of Divine Mercy is a public feast day formally established by St John Paul 11 in May 2000.  The Divine Mercy Devotion is inspired by the experiences and writings of a Polish nun, Sister Faustina, who died at 33 years of age in 1938 and was canonised in April 2000.   It embraces priests, religious and laity united in their commitment to live mercy in relating to their brothers and sisters, to make the mystery of Divine Mercy known and to invoke God’s mercy for sinners.

Diary date: Annual Mass & Anointing for people with disabilities and chronic illnesses will be held in Ennis Cathedral on Wednesday, 3rd May at 2pm with Bishop Fintan Monahan as chief celebrant and homilist. All are welcome.

Diocesan Pilgrimage to Knock:   The annual Diocesan Pilgrimage to Knock this year will take place on Sunday 2nd July 2017, sharing with Ferns as we have in previous years.  This year Ferns Diocese will lead the ceremonies.  Save the date – specific details will be announced at a later date.

Ruan/Dysart History Group Display: In winter of 2014 a small group of like-minded individuals came together to undertake what they considered to be a very important local history initiative.  Concerns were being expressed by members of the group that the local history and folklore of the parish would be lost with the passage of time.

The group set out to record, on a townland by townland basis, the local landscape details, families who resided there, local characters, events, traditions and so on, in an effort to pass on to future generations this local lore.  Students of local history in future may benefit from such data and perhaps make possible family connections. The local history group have, to date, compiled information on a number of townlands and wish to display a sample of 8 townlands in Morty Kelly’s on Tuesday 2nd May between 8 and 10 p.m.  T

he townlands being displayed are Ruan Commons (village), Bealnalicka, Nuan, Lisduff, Caherclancy, Erinagh, Ballynagonnaghtagh, & Kilcurrish. All are welcome and perhaps you may have a query or a particular snippet of detail you wish to share, the group will be happy to oblige. If anyone has family photos that they would wish to have included in this project, the group would be delighted to have them scanned and returned with the greatest of care.

The 38th annual Clare 250 Mile Cycle takes place on the 20th & 21st of May.  Taking part in this event gives you an opportunity to nominate someone from your parish who has been diagnosed with cancer to go on our pilgrimage to Lourdes in September.  If you are interested in taking part, please contact 065 6841600 or email clare250mile@gmail.com.

Corofin Dramatic Society present The Cripple of Inishmaan in Corofin Hall on the 23rd and 29th April and on the 1st May commencing at 8:00 pm.  This will be a chance to see this play before their appearance in the All Ireland Finals in Athlone on 9th May.

The Easter Nail.

On a cross that was carved from one simple tree, Jesus suffered and died for the world to see.

Crowned by sharp thorns, pierced, and broken by nails, his enemies were certain

Christ's ministry failed. But soon it was clear that his death had assured

our life everlasting, through the pain he endured.

At that sorrowful moment, we all gained our connection to the wonder and joy

of His Easter morn resurrection.

Hang this nail in your home,

forever to be the sign of God's promise of eternity.  (Anon)

Camogie News: A great game played at high championship intensity saw the Ruan girls come out on top 4.7 to 0.1 on a beautiful morning for Camogie in Parteen. The desire from the Ruan girls to contest every ball all over the pitch made the difference between the teams and meant that home team got no easy plays. Despite the score line Ruan did not have it all their own way, some great play was required to gain the scores near the end of the first half that was vital to the final outcome.

Help me to love, so that my children will be loving’.
(Marian Wright Edelman)

Workers’ Memorial Day Ireland on Tuesday 28th April 2015:  Remembering the past for a safe and healthy future. For everyone with an interest in the safety, health and welfare of people at work, April 28th is an important day.  It’s the date every year when trade unions, employer groups and individual organisations remember those who have been killed or injured in work-related accidents. In Ireland, in the 5 year period between 2010 and 2014, 253 people were killed in work-related accidents and many thousands more were badly injured.   Last year alone 56 people died, including 5 children.   These are shocking figures by any standards. We all agree that no job is worth someone’s life, but every year people are killed in foreseeable and preventable work-related accidents.

Details can be got from Fr Tom Ryan Shannon Pilgrimage Director for the Diocese on (061) 364133.

The annual Diocesan Pilgrimage to Knock this year will take place on Sunday 5th July, sharing with Ferns as we have in previous years.
